“Grass Seed Netting Removal”

When your lawn is damaged or consists of worn patches, the best method to repair it is to use grass seed. You must then measure the place that needs repair and prepare it. After that, you then look for appropriate grass seed that will match the existing lawn from reputable suppliers. Different suppliers have a variety of grass seeds ideal for landscape, sports pitch, commercial purposes as well as agricultural among others.

For areas that are smaller, you can consider Turfline range which includes Tough Lawn Seed or Multi-purpose Lawn Seed and these contain micro-clover. The packages of Turfline seed can cover areas measuring about 50 square meters. The quantity of seed you will buy depends on the size of area that you want to repair.

However, as a matter of fact, growing grass is not very easy since the seeds take a very long time to germinate. The other challenge that you face is that the birds can eat the grass seeds and it is for this reason that you need to protect the seed against the birds to achieve complete germination. If you want to protect your seeds against birds, then grass netting is one of the best alternatives that you can consider.

Reasons for Considering Grass Netting

The main reason for considering grass seed is that the cost is less expensive compared to buying turf lawn. The setup time is also ideal since the grass seed will gradually fill the patches as the grass grows after germination.

The other advantage of grass seed is that of slow growth where the seeds will take a while to grow into the kind of lawn you desire. It takes about six weeks for the seeds to grow into a full lawn that you can cut. You must bear in mind that seeds can be destroyed by invaders like animals and birds.  Therefore, the best method of preventing the seeds from being invaded is to lay down netting.

Once you take the necessary steps, you can get equally good lawn from the seeds. Grass seed as you will realize is easy to set up and it can gradually fill all the patches with less effort compared to other methods like sod which can also turn out to be expensive. When you have prepared your land and laid the grass seed, you should make sure that it gets sufficient water and cover it with appropriate netting to keep birds away.

What is Lawn Netting

How to Get Rid of Black Mold on Grass

Grass netting consists of net material that is specifically designed to cover the grass to safeguard it against birds as the seeds germinate. This will help to increase the chances of survival of the growing grass from the seeds that you sow. It is recommended that you take all the necessary steps to ensure that the grass has sufficient moisture to promote quality growth.

In terms of netting, there are different types of mesh that you can use. For instance, you can choose from plastic mesh or natural fiber which all help to protect the germinating seeds against birds. You must make sure that you keep this netting at least three inches above the grass so that the birds will not access the seeds. This will also prevent the birds from making holes on the net in an attempt to reach the germinating seeds below.

Types of Grass Netting

There are different types of netting and Jute is the commonly used material which consists of natural fiber and it is biodegradable. The material is also strong such that it cannot be easily destroyed by birds. The net is woven in a grid-like pattern and you lay it on top of your grass to cover it against birds.

The other popular type of netting is coir which consists of coconut fiber. The fiber at times is bonded with plastic material to enhance durability so that it is not easily broken by birds. You also use this material to proportionately cover your grass to protect it against invasion by birds.

Straw is another good type of netting for lawns. It is designed to protect plant roots, prevent erosion and it also helps to retain moisture. It prevents the seeds from blowing away.

When to Remove Grass Seed Netting

When you have placed your grass seed netting on top of the grass seed freshly grown, you must constantly monitor the growth of the grass. As noted above, freshly grown grass can take up to six weeks before you can cut it. You can leave your netting until such a period that your grass is fully grown. After this period, you can then remove the netting if it consists of a plastic or any other material that cannot decompose.

However, if you use biodegradable mesh-like jute, then there is no reason to remove it from your lawn. The netting will decompose within a season so there is no need to worry about removing it. The material can add nutrients to the soil which enhance the growth of the lawn.

How to Get Rid of Black Mold on Grass

The sight of black mold on your grass is unpleasant and it can just appear on your lawn leaving patches of black spots. The creation of black mold on your lawn can be a result of fungal activity and in most cases, chemicals may not be the best solution for this particular problem.

Black mold on your lawn is unsightly but the good news is that it is easy to treat. You do not need to spend a fortune on buying chemicals to treat the grass since there are certain steps that you need to follow. There are different types of slime mold and some can be beneficial since it eats dead organic matter. In other words, the slime mold does not damage your grass but it can only affect its appearance.

Lawn Slime Mold

The black mold on your grass usually favors warm and moist conditions. Slime mold can also come in different colors and the spores can be pink, blue, red cream or orange. The color will become dark during the period when they mass together. Usually, the slime molds are driven by the wind and it deposits them on the grass.

The slime spores reproduce and bloom when there is moisture and they create patches measuring about six inches. If you feel that the black patches are unsightly on your lawn, there are certain steps that you can take to remove them.

Mowing the Black Mold

You can significantly lower the impact of black mold by mowing your lawn. A lawnmower can significantly help to lower the impact on black mold on your grass. In summer you can set your mower to four inches while in fall and spring set it to about two and a half inches tall.

All the areas affected by black mold will clear after mowing and you should remove all the clippings. The black mold will not return so you should not stress about looking for chemicals to treat the condition that is otherwise natural and harmless. Just avoid using the black mold again since you can use the lawn clippings as mulch.

Rinse the Black Mold

Another simple and cost-effective method of getting rid of black mold on grass is to rinse it. You can just use plain water to remove all the unsightly black spots on the grass. You only need to set your nozzle to its strongest point then directly spray the black mold on the grass. The water will quickly remove the mold spores and they will not return again.

The method of washing the black mold on your grass is effective, especially in dry weather conditions. The spores will not likely to hold up once they have been washed away. The spores will also likely die once removed from the grass.

Remove the Black Mold With a Rake

You can use a lawn rake to remove the black mold on your lawn under dry or wet weather. You can rake the affected areas in such a way that you do not damage the lawn and the mold will fall away. You should clean your rake using standard bleach and water after clearing the black mold on your lawn.

The method is again simple since you only need to apply light force when raking your lawn. The black mold will simply fall down. For effective results, it is important to rake your lawn when it is dry so that the black mold does not stick to the leaves.

Alternatively, you can just leave the mold on your grass if you do not have time to remove it. It will simply fall away when the weather dries up. In most cases, the black mold thrives under humid conditions but will eventually dry during hot periods. It is not likely that the mold will appear again when it falls away.

In other words, the black mold on your grass can improve its appearance. Instead of damaging it, the black mold will help the lawn to achieve a healthy status since it will be free of bacteria.
